SPRING BREAK '10

If you follow me on twitter then you know I've been a busy man over spring break in Florida promoting Born 2 Shine customs and soaking up the sun. Although I had the opportunity to do so much during my stay, I really found enjoyment in completing a set of seahorses on cardboard for my brother's new place in Boynton Beach. His girlfriend was intrigued by the seahorse piece in the Autumn Dreamer collection and wanted some artwork with a similar feel. I really like the way they turned out and they were excited about the work as well. My brother showed me a great time over the break so it was my pleasure to do this for him. Im certainly glad I got the  in chance to finish this project during my stay in Florida.

In other news, the cardboard canvases from the Autumn Dreamer collection are now up for sale. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in owning a piece from the collection. I'll probably sell  the pieces individually for $20-$100 each. Prices are negotiable and I can always do custom orders on cardboard for relatively cheap. I feel blessed to be allotted these opportunities and I want to thank everyone who played a role in this wonderful experience.

KUSTOM GEEKS: NEXT LEVEL

I am glad to announce that I've been presented with some flourishing opportunities to do some custom work for some very big names this year. These are just a few artists who will soon have a pair of Born2Shine customs of their own. Stay tuned to see the customs as well as the other endeavors I'm involved with.

I almost forgot to mention how great things went last semester with the Autumn Dreamer Exhibition and the Pittsburgh Green Bridge Project. I've posted pictures from both events on my facebook page.(accessible on the right toolbar) I plan to post and write about every piece in the Autumn Dreamer Collection and describe in further detail my experience working with the kids at CAPA on the exhibition at the Mattress Factory so look out for those bits really soon. Otherwise stay awake and enjoy the time you have.

Happy New Year

GREEN BRIDGE PROJECT PRESS RELEASE

The Pittsburgh-Green-Bridge Project is an endeavor I've been heavily involved with this semester. Generally, the effort provides opportunities for budding artists in PIttsburgh. This opportunity encourages the creation of effective, environmentally sensitive artwork. The Pittsburgh-Green-Bridge Project is a collaboration between students at CAPA High School and the University of Pittsburgh, the Mattress Factory, artists Constance Merriman, JoAnna Commandaros, Karen Page, Heather White and David Pohl, and the residents of Pittsburgh’s urban community and Greenspaces. This interdisciplinary project includes study, observation, documentation, discussion, implementation and celebration. Click here to view the Pittsburgh Green Bridge Project blog.

The collaboration has been centered around Japanese Knotweed. Japanese Knotweed is an invasive species not native to Pittsburgh, and is currently impacting Schenley Park. The groups teamed with restoration ecologists to clear a pathway and collect the knotweed. An installation reflecting the experience of the artists, students and the community will be exhibited at the Mattress Factory.

The opening for the show is today, December 12th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the lobby of the Mattress Factory. The show will be open for viewing on December 13th from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. This was my first time working with CAPA and The Mattress Factory and I hope everyone gets a chance to come out this weekend to view the installation.

AUTUMN DREAMER EXHIBITION

This is it! My first official solo art exhibition is finally up and running in the Conney M. Kimbo Gallery in the William Pitt union. I put countless hours into the completion this collection and I am super excited to be displaying my artwork at the University of Pittsburgh. The show will last the duration of this week and is free to everyone. The William Pitt Union is located at 5th and Bigalow Blvd, directly across from the Cathedral of Learning. I'm holding out on pictures and details on the pieces until later in the week and urging people to come out and see them in person so bring your artistic appetite to the Student union and check out the "Autumn Dreamer" collection by me!

LETS FLY

I put together a simple slide show so that I could let people hear the new track for the Born2Shine mixtape. Its called Lets Fly and it features Pittsburgh rapper Phresh LaRosa, Majiq from Born2Shine and myself. We recorded the song last week at ID Labs in Lawrenceville. I dont think this will be the final version that will be on the official tracklist but I was eager to get some feedback on it so we're putting it out there early for people to hear. Phresh has done alot with the team lately and will likely be incorporated into more Born2Shine-related features in the future. His musical experience is priceless and he is very motivated and ambitious. Look forward to seeing a lot more from him in the future.

WATCHMEN CUSTOMS

Greetings. Im getting busier and busier nowadays so I'll keep it short this time. We did these custom Dunks through the hottest custom shoe site, http://pimpmykicks.com/ for a client in Florida. My teammate, Majiq completed the custom job but since hes not an adamant blogger, I'm putting them on the APO. I think dunks are one the best shoes to get customized and I always like to see a successful pair. Enjoy!

BLACK SOLE CUSTOMS

Heres a look at my latest project I completed earlier this week. The Black Sole Customs carry the connotations of pride and power, conveyed through a musical outlet. The recipient of the custom job was Nick Pratt, a heavily involved student and musician at my school. I'd like to thank him through the APO for allowing me the opportunity to collaborate on ideas and carry out this envisioned design. Make sure you check out his music and show your support. I'm putting the link to his blog under the other sites found on the right sidebar. Hes also on twitter so make sure you follow @NickPrattMusic. I'm definitely looking to forward to doing more collaborative work with Nick, as he appeared to be more than satisfied with the final product. With that said, lets keep the ball rolling. I 'll be back soon.

CANVAS WORK

Hello again
Im back again to everyone's felicity Im sure. This time I came to share more artwork I've been engaged in lately. The piece you see here is a canvas I started last week. Its still far from finished but I wanted to keep my followers up-to-date with my latest projects. I've grown so fond of this piece since starting it; I cannot wait till its finished so I can show off the final image. The piece will likely be on display for the DREAMERS exhibition November 30. Let me know if you like where Im taking it so far. Unlike many of my other works, there is no clear message in this oil painting. It is more a display and practice of dexterity. I like to work in many other mediums so once in a while I have to return to the oils and hone my skills.

Also, I've received some commissions recently for some custom shoes with gnarly themes so stay tuned for those. There are 2 days left to vote on the poll so pretty soon you'll be blessed with another Born 2 Shine custom shoe design featuring one of the musical legends listed. My company has been doing a lot of valuable networking lately so look for us to be working with other companies as well as some very interesting clientele. If you want me for a piece of custom artwork, I'll be more than happy to work for you. Simply contact me through email or facebook, as those are what I check the most often.

Im gone but never far

DREAMERS

Hello All
I hope everyone is as excited as I am about this school year. I'm currently enrolled in some pretty interesting and inspiring classes here at Pitt and I am eager to show everyone how my artwork has been influenced by my recent studies. The image above is the first illustration I've competed specifically for my upcoming art show this semester in The University of Pittsburgh Student Union. As of now, the Show is entitled "Dreamers" and will feature a cornucopia of personal works of mine. The show will debut November 30, 2009 and run for two weeks through December 14th. More information regarding the exhibition will be available next month as I begin promotions.

If you havnt noticed I implemented a poll on the side of the blog. This is a method I'm experimenting with as a means to engage my followers. Every month I plan to do a custom job based directly on the results of my poll. This month, for example, I will paint a pair of shoes depicting whoever the viewers vote for to be featured (looks as though Bob Marley will be the favorite). I plan to work more with polls in the future so look out for ways to contribute your feedback on the APO. Later friends.

PIMPMYKICKS.COM

I know I already posted the KING OF POP Customs on my page when JRow and I completed them but you should really get used to seeing them, as they are getting more and more attention from every direction. They are currently featured on http://pimpmykicks.com and have been deemed one of the most valuable pair of custom AF1s done this summer. An interview I did a while ago is also featured on the site along with more photos so be sure to stop by the site to get a second look and see what I had to say about the process of getting them done.

I am also working on some interviews for other publications as well so be sure to look out for me on the net, as well as in your local papers and magazines. Along with having my very own art exhibition this semester in the Pitt student union, I have plenty of new and exciting projects in store for this year. Welcome to all my new followers and stay tuned!

Always with love

I ♥ K CUSTOM DESIGNER HANDBAG

Hey there
Now that I'm back at school, You can expect me to be doing plenty of work outside the fashion genre. However, before I introduce you to another side of me as an artist, I thought I'd treat my lady followers with a special gift from me to you. I do a lot of commissioned work that I consider objective, however, only projects with personal significance make it to the Apotheosis.

This is a very special handbag, customized by yours truly, for a good friend of mine. It was very fun to stray from my comfort zone and take on this project as a new and exciting challenge. I refuse to bore my followers to death with trivial details so I'll keep it short. She basically gave me the freedom to do what I pleased with the bag so in a way I lacked a concrete starting point. However, I knew I wanted to make it girly and trendy. So I chose some fun colors to give it a pop art feel and used Marilyn Monroe to convey the feminine aspect. The "I ♥ K" idea came to me sporadically when I was contemplating what to do with the big white K on the inside of the bag. Finally, I splashed the straps with paint, like we do the laces of our custom shoes, to give it a one-of-a-kind Born 2 Shine touch. Needless to say, she was thrilled with her custom purse as was I with the success of the project.

The purse has its own album on my facebook page so be sure to check out more pics on there and let me know what you think. I'm also getting a brand new myspace page this week so be on the look out for the new link on my page. Furthermore, our custom sneakers have been buzzing through all of the sneakerhead sites so check out paintorthread.com and pimpmykicks.com to check out our various features.

KISS BAND CUSTOMS

There's not much to say about these other than they are the first design in the BinkyBoy Life Rocks custom collection. After you see the next design you'll have a better idea as to where Im taking this line but for now, admire these gnarly kicks and hit me up with any inquisitions. I made an album for the shoes on my Facebook page so you can check out more pics on there and leave comments to let me know what you think. An interview I did recently inspired me to write a FAQ section for my page so look out for that as well some other upgrades to the blog. Enjoy!

BORN 2 SHINE SNEAK PEAK

I think its funny how I can spend so much time to complete a drawing or painting and be so obsessed with the final product that I consider it my best work. Then, a few days later do something ten times better in half the time. All in all, its a blessing to continue to work and do what I love on a daily basis. I believe progression is more than surviving the test of time, but the capacity to become more efficient in our fields.

Today the field is painting custom sneakers and when it comes to efficiency, my team is far from lacking. In an interview the other day I said we've already topped the King of Pop Customs but with the whole world still in pandemonium over his death, and with all the new controversies, I think they're going to get even more attention than I originally anticipated. The last thing I want this to do, however, is overshadow the amount of work we've been putting in elsewhere. Truth be told, the Michael Jackson shoes are phenomenal but we never look back and we're always looking for ways to to establish ourselves as elite artists. With that said, here's a taste of some other shoe flavors we've been cooking up since the Michael Jackson ones.

SNAKE BITE SWIDDLE

Since I didnt think it would be fair to follow up the KING OF POP Customs with any other painted shoes, I figured this was a good time to post the video of me getting my lip pierced earlier this summer. I got it done at Premier on 2nd street in Harrisburg. Shout outs to my friend Sie for the filmage and commentary as well. As an artist, I definitely consider piercing and tattoos a unique form of expression and creativity. At first I thought it would be a temporary thing but now I dont know. I still think its a cool look.
I linked my twitter page to the blog so now its even easier to stay up with all of the projects I'm involved with. Im very excited about some deals I've been lining up and I hope everyone stays tuned for whats in store from me and my team. I'm gone for now.

KING OF POP CUSTOMS

Hello world and beyond
This summer I've really been able to delve deep into the realm of custom sneakers and many of my other posts reflect the great passion I have for this, arguably, lost art. However, today's entry is truly special and unprecedented compared to any other project I've completed recently. This pair of custom Air Force 1 lows were a collaboration of myself and fellow custom artist, JRow, dedicated to the legacy of the famous Michael Jackson. We've been able to join forces on a number of pairs this summer and quite frankly, the results speak for themselves. So without hesitation, I am excited and proud to introduce the one-of-kind hand-painted Born 2 Shine King of Pop Customs.I'll keep it brief and leave some questions for the bloggers and sneakerhead sites but after we got the idea to make the commemorative pair, we went straight to work choosing images and colors for the shoes. Ultimately, each of us completed one shoe based on our individual reflections and personally, I am more than satisfied with the final product. The King of Pop Customs will be featured on PIMPMYKICKS.COM very soon so stop by the site and check them out for yourself. Also, along with new (and better) pictures will be an artist interview featuring Me and J reflecting more in depth upon the process of designing this classic pair. Stay tuned for more Born 2 Shine customs and visit pimpmykicks if your think you're up to owning a custom pair of your own.
